Psalm 49 – Prayer for wisdom about death and eternal life – God’s Word For Today
People, listen well this! Listen, all inhabitants of the world, both the powerful and the humble, both the rich and the poor! My thoughts will be clear; I will speak words of wisdom. I will give attention to proverbs and, as I play my lyre, I will explain them. I do not feel afraid in times of danger, when my enemies around me. These perverse trust in their wealth and boast of their great fortunes. But no one can save himself, or give to God the price of his life, because there is no money to pay someone else's life. For more money a person has, it does not guarantee that she never going to die, she'll live forever.
Everyone sees that wise men die, and also die fools and ignorant. And all leave their wealth to others. Their graves are their perpetual homes, where they stay forever, even though they possessed many lands. The human being, however important it may be, can not escape death; how animals die, it also dies. Notice what happens to those who trust in themselves; see the end of those who are satisfied with their wealth. Their pastor – death – takes, and they are doomed to die as if they were sheep. In the morning, the right people to win; the bodies of them rot in the grave, far from their homes. But God deliver me from the power of death, for he will receive me.
Do not worry when someone gets rich, and their wealth is steadily increasing. For when he dies he can not take anything; their wealth will not go with him to the grave. While it is content with his life and is praised for success, he when he dies he will meet with his ancestors in the place where the darkness lasts forever. The human being, however important it may be, can not escape death; how animals die, it also dies. – Psalm 49
